The Villages was a unique town. We visited the area as we had some family from out of town looking for some quiet places to retire. That was exactly what the place was for.
The Villages goes by the friendliest retirement hometown and when we came by, that’s what it looked like. Everything looked like what a retiree could ask for, golf carts and early bird specials. The picture above was a man made lake with a ferry boat ready to dock near a restaurant we were eating at. The town had shops, restaurants, and a small downtown courtyard area for performers.
From what I remember the town is completely privatized and not with mayors but shareholders. It’s an incredibly interesting concept but it doesn’t appear that it’s a new one. I plan to cover more in detail of The Villages in the coming days in a series I’ve created. Stay tuned for the continuation!
